Projects

The Comfort Room

ROTARY invited members of our community to assist us in bringing this TRAUMA COUNSELLING CENTRE together.

Volunteers cleaned and painted and sorted and washed and ironed donations of clothing.

A generous donation from our sister club of Paarl got the ball rolling and a benefactor donated  all the furniture.

The club continues to support this  initiative of the SAPS, most recently through providing branded T-Shirts to the team of counsellors.

The Wheelchair Project

Generous UK based Rotarians work tirelessly collecting to bring wheelchairs to those that who struggle with mobility. For those who have physical capacity, it is difficult to understand what a huge benefit this piece of equipment can bring. Our partners at GOEDGEDACHT helped Rotarians with distribution and hosted a delightful function to welcome our British ROTARIAN guests.

Kickstart Project

Our longest running project. Activated thanks to funds from our club and a District Grant. KickStart seeks to engage with the children living on the farms bordering our village of Riebeek Kasteel.

These young people are amongst the most marginalised of all. They struggle with all manner of difficulties from lack of educational opportunities and lack of nutrition, to the challenges of foetal alcohol syndrome.

KickStart offers these kids an opportunity to escape their circumstances and socialise, play and integrate on the village square. These boys and girls are learning the life and inter-personal skills that only team sports can bring.

The Riebeek United Rugby Club

At a members meeting on 4th May 2023 members voted overwhelmingly for the Club to investigate ways in which we may support our local rugger team. Riebeek United has moved to the senior Swartland League and are battling it out to overcome the challenges being in the senior league brings. Players attract a huge following and are natural role models in these rugby mad towns of The Riebeek Valley.

The Playground Project

The Riebeek West POP centre is a hive of excited activity, with children safely and happily playing in a secure walled area. The play equipment donated by The Rotary Club of Mount Martha, Victoria, Australia. District 9820 is cleverly & sturdily designed. Our ROTARIAN volunteers and their two helpers have done a sterling job erecting the equipment. Touches  include: rubber landing pads at the base of the slide with  all edges smoothly rounded with no protruding bolts or sharp edges to harm little bodies.
