The Rotary Club of Riebeek Valley has indeed travelled a road since our chartering in December 2021. With meetings and get-togethers starting in September of that year, a group of friends, and friends of friends began making connections with our District 9520 and registering the club with ROTARY International. On 7 December 2021 our first President, William Pulles was inducted together with 29 enthusiastic new Rotarians. District Governor Tracey Wilson did the honours with music laid on by the talented kids of the local Steel Band Project. An auction raised close to R14000,00 and our first Project was announced.
ROTARY invited members of our community to assist us in bringing this TRAUMA COUNSELLING CENTRE together. Volunteers cleaned and painted and sorted and washed and ironed donations of clothing. A generous donation from our sister club of Paarl got the ball rolling and a benefactor donated all the furniture. The club continues to support this initiative of the SAPS, most recently through providing branded T-Shirts to the team of counsellors.
Generous UK based Rotarians work tirelessly collecting to bring wheelchairs to those that who struggle with mobility. For those who have physical capacity, it is difficult to understand what a huge benefit this piece of equipment can bring. Our partners at GOEDGEDACHT helped Rotarians with distribution and hosted a delightful function to welcome our British ROTARIAN guests.
KickStart is our longest running project, funded by our club and a District Grant. It aims to engage marginalized children living on farms near our village of Riebeek Kasteel. These kids face numerous challenges including limited education, nutrition, and foetal alcohol syndrome. With KickStart, they have the chance to escape and socialize on the village square, while also learning valuable life skills through team sports.
UNITE WITH US… in our mission to invest in the futures of young lives and communities. TOGETHER, we can bring about real and lasting change.
